Two years ago I had the same challenge you probably are facing now – my wedding date was quickly approaching and I needed to write my wedding vows - fast.  Like you, I wanted everything for my wedding to be perfect, including the vows that I exchanged with my fiancé.

My Experience

I looked through at least 20 wedding books, scanned over 30 wedding magazines, scoured numerous internet sites (big and small), looking for direction on how to write wedding vows.  I kept running into the same problem over and over – nobody had an easy to use system for writing original and personal wedding vows. 
But that's just part of the story...

Each wedding book I found devoted at most 5 pages to wedding vows - if it discussed them at all.  What's more, even the books written specifically about wedding vows were sorely lacking if not downright useless - they either offered suggestions that would take us days to write our vows (one suggestion was to sit underneath a tree with a blank sheet of paper and begin writing down all my feelings about my fiancé), or they simply reprinted the same old traditional and common wedding vows  - many were first used during the Middle Ages!  

Wedding magazines were no better – they were mainly excerpts from these same wedding books stuffed between endless bridal gown advertisements. 

Next, I turned to the internet.  You guessed it -  websites about weddings were a dead end too - they gave wedding vows superficial treatment, with practically no additional insight or guidance - other than to tell me wedding vows are important.  It’s no wonder many couples just settle for an uninspiring and dull wedding vow. Sadly, unless they have the time - and the skill - to write an original wedding vow on their own, they just use one that someone has already used before (whether it’s good or not!).

Since the relationship I have with my (now) husband Joe is very special, I wanted to have wedding vows that were not only unique - but were also personal to us - and of course, romantic.  The last thing I wanted was an ordinary and common wedding vow!  So we (mostly me) got to work on this - we spent more than sixteen hours (spread over five days!) writing, writing, WRITING, WRITING  - you get the picture - and then finally re-writing our vows until we finally had ones we liked and were excited about.   

Let me tell you, it was a time consuming process.  You see, between all of the other wedding plans I still had to decide – the hors d’oeuvres at our reception, the bridesmaid gowns, the greenery for our table centerpieces, finalizing the guest list – I could have spent that time doing a million other things.
